Auth0 Launch OpenFGA - Cloud Native Authorization Project
We’ve been talking to hundreds of developers who consistently tell us that they want to change how authorization is implemented in their applications. Authorization logic is embedded in the code and implemented differently in each service. It’s not flexible enough to define complex policies or finer-grained authorization. They struggle with load at scale. The existing RBAC/ABAC solutions can’t handle this complexity. That’s why we built OpenFGA.
We are thrilled to announce the release of OpenFGA v1.0, a modern, flexible authorization system inspired by Google's Zanzibar. OpenFGA, designed for reliability and low latency at scale, has been embraced by the developer community since its open-sourcing in June 2022. The Cyber Hut Comment: Auth0 have always been a developer-focused identity firm and have always invested in open source projects. They have been investing in the authorization space for a year or so, since they adopted Google’s Zanzibar concept as a model for their new access control capabilities. That project has matured to a version 1.0 under the name OpenFGA (fine grained authorization).
